Kitchen Manager

Our client is looking for a passionate Kitchen Manager to help expand their food service.  This position reports to the Food Service Manager. Current schedule is 6 hours per day, 5 days per week for a total of 30 hours but may increase as cafeteria hours expand to include early evenings. Must be able to work mornings and afternoons. The Kitchen Manager will set expectations for kitchen team and other employees to work together to maximize productivity and enhance the customer service experience.

Responsibilities of the Kitchen Manager include: 

  • Ensure all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to recipe, cooking and serving standards.
  • Work with the Food Service Manager to plan and price menu items; plan menu one month in advance to allow for advertising and promoting specials.
  • Ensure all products are ordered or purchased and deliveries are received in correct unit counts and condition.
  • Control food cost, usage, and waste by following proper documentation of products from storage areas.
  • Schedule labor as required by anticipated business activity, peak business hours, while ensuring all positions are staffed when and as needed and labor costs objectives are met.
  • Prepare required paperwork, reports and schedules in an organized and timely manner.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment and working area is kept clean and in excellent working condition; report discrepancies to Manager and/or seek the help of a maintenance if repairs are needed.
  • Comply with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures.
  • Stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products in serving area to ensure a smooth and timely delivery to customers.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work station area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, stoves, refrigerators, and any other equipment used in the food preparation process.
  • Participate in preparation of a wide variety of food items, complete cooking and food preparation.
  • Prepare items for broiling, grilling, frying, sautéing or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning and/or marinating. Assist in food preparation during off-peak periods as needed.
  • Handle, store and rotate all products properly.
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate cleaning schedule for the kitchen to include floors, mats, walls, hoods, equipment, utensils, and food storage areas.
  • Close the kitchen properly following a checklist and/or assist other employees as needed.
  • Oversee training of new kitchen employees; ensure they are trained in the safe operation of all kitchen equipment and utensils, cleanliness and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to collect cash and complete debit or credit card transactions from customers if needed.
  • Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in food handling and preparation.
  • Excellent hygiene and grooming habits.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 to 75 pounds.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times; follow identified safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with other employees, customers and vendors.
  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time.
